LIVELIHOOD PROGRAMME
STORY - 01 Shared experience by
one of the group members in Seth Sarana Livelihood Programme. My name is Pathima
Ranjani and I also from Pitipana area. The Animator Joseph
Peter started our group as a request from our Parish Priest.
I am the President of our group. I feel that there is
some improvement in my spiritual life. I got used to pray as
family only after I joined this Seth Sarana group.
When I think
about the economical side now have a way to take loans
without going to the money lender. In an event of a death or a sickness
we have provide a way to help them financially as well as by
giving free labour as a group.
We organize Shramadhana
activities and give our full corporation to success
them. We do our work well more than before. Thanks to Seth sarana
for giving us a good strength.

STORY - 02
I am Susanthi Sandya. I am from Sea Street, Negombo. I have three
children. My husband is a Three wheeler driver. I am a
Sinhala Catholic and he is a Muslim. We were living in
the sea beach area. Our way of living was not very easy.
We were living hand to mouth when the Tsunami happened
and washed away our house completely.
We had to find shelter in Bosco Camp for some time. But with our
three little children it was not easy to live there.
They were restless. We came back to the place where we
were living before the Tsunami, and just covered our
house with some polythene & sheets. Life was more
difficult over there too.
Then Seth Sarana came to our rescue and we got this temporary
shelter. This shelter is so precious for us. I must say
that it has helped us to forget our poverty and hunger.
I became a member of Seth Sarana small group. And our group members
got awareness programmes on various subjects. One of
these is Primary Health.
When we were living in the beach side before the Tsunami we did not
have the sanitary facilities when we felt the need for
it, as a group we requested this from Seth Sarana and we
were able to get it. At the moment our seven families
use one toilet and as a group we are very keen on
keeping this place clean and tidy.
And also I learnt how to cook meals clean and nutritious. Now when
ever I cook leaves or make “mellum “ I wash it with salt
water. I have learned when we practice good hygienic
ways we can be prevented from so many sicknesses.
I feel my family is happy and healthy now.
STORY - 03
My name is
Kusum Nadeeka. I am from North Pitipana in Negombo. When I
saw how Seth Sarana group members taking part in various
activities in our village , I wanted to join them. I met the
animator Joseph Peter through our Parish Priest and started
our group. There is a spiritual growth too in my life after
joining this group. We started saving money by selling
eatables like “pittu “, rotie” “string hoppers” etc. We took
loans from what we saved. I think we are now more united
mutually help ourselves than before. We who were previously
confined to the house could now come out boldly to face
society.
Thanks to
the intervention of Seth Sarana .
