EMERGENCY RELIEF IN ARCHDIOCESE OF COLOMBO May - June 2008

 

Our Emergency Disaster Relief & Rehabilitation Units coordinator has been activity contacting all parishes affected adversely by the prevailing in incessant rains. The area mostly effected by flooding in the Colombo Archdiocese are those on the banks of the Kalani and Kalu Rivers and their tributaries and in many urban areas flooding occurs due to insufficient storm water drainage.  

From the Kalutara District – 65,123 person from 19,658 displaced families in 126 G.N Divisions. 13 deaths are reported from this District from Colombo           District – 8,164 families Displaced with 42402 individual from 11 G.N. Division From Gampaha District – 41,114 persons in 8,646 families displaced in 79 G.N. Division Data taken from Disaster Management Centre on of 3rd June 2008. At the time of writing 21 parishes have been in contact with our centre. They are Horana, Makewita, Hanwella, Tarala, Mattakuliya, Grandpass, Welivita, Jaela, Kelaniya, Kotugoda, Tudella, Kalutara, Bopitiya, Dehiyagatha, Kerawalapitiya, Wellapalliya.    CLICK HERE TO VIEW MORE INFORMATION >>
