Introduction >>

The parish is the basic unit of Church ministry. Sethsarana encourages the formation and effective functioning of Justice, Peace Human Development Committees in all archdiocesan parishes. These units are the key channels of our social apostolate.

This is  the  Archdiocesan component  of the National Peace Programme  launched by SEDEC- Caritas SL the Churches response to  civil, ethnic, political and  man made conflicts, violence and  disturbance.  Essentially it is a Peace Education and Awareness Programme conducted at school level in Parishes and other places and institutions . Seminars and workshop on Non- Violent Conflict Resolution, Human Rights , Inter ethnic and Inter racial Dialogues and  many other   strategies  to  promote reconciliation  Peace and Unity among people. 

The  formation of a  Children's and  Youth  Peace Tasks Force  is a on-going  activity to develop practice of Non-Violence  Conflict Resolution.


The Seth Sarana Lenten Pilgrimage 2008

The Seth Sarana Lenten Pilgrimage is scheduled to take place at Tewatta , Ragama on the 3rd Sunday in Lent which is the 24the of February .

Non Violent Conflict Resolution

6 August – A full day’s programme was held at St Loyala’s College Negombo for 50 school prefects 

9 August – A Half Days programme was conducted for 32 Sunday School Prefects at St Sebastian’s Church Katuwapitiya Negombo 

The theme of the programmes was to build Peace Committees at School and Village level in order to reduce the incidence of conflicts and to intervene using dialogue, understanding and tolerance as a means of resolving conflicts. 

Another full day’s programme was held on 7 August at St Loyala’s College Negombo for a group of 76 Students who had obtained high marks at the GCE Ordinary Level and GCE Advanced Level Examinations. The theme being Peace through Leadership. The objective is to build Peace Committees among student bodies with the accent of a change of attitudes towards Peace initiatives and provide knowledge about the concepts of Peace. 

All these programmes were facilitated by the Peace Coordinator.


The Lenten Peace Pilgrimage Organized by “Seth Sarana Caritas Colombo” to Indigolla Shrine on 25th March 2007 >>

Over two thousand five hundred members from various animation groups, staff and families of Seth Sarana participated in this pilgrimage.

The Parish Priest Rev.Fr Ruban Leslie warmly welcomed the participants. to his Parish. All present felt that the Shrine was the ideal location for the Way of the Cross.
Each group took turns in conducting the Way of the Cross with prayers being recited very fervently mainly in sinhala. Rev.Fr. Lasantha De Abrew was in charge of the entire programme. After the Way of the Cross Holy Mass was celebrated together with Rev.Fr. Lalith Felix Rector, John Vianny seminary. The fervent wish of all participants were to ask our Blessed Lord to intercede with the Father in Heaven to Bless our country and grant it peace which is a prerequest for development and also that the people suffering in the North, Eastand South will enjoy peace soon which will embrace them to live peacefully with their families. We also prayed that the government and the LTTE will soon come together for negotiations to arrive at a settlement.

Rev. Fr. Jude Raj Director of Seth Sarana Caritas together with peace co-ordinator Mr. Anton Niranjan were responsible in organizing this peace pilgrimage, And thanked Rev. Fr. Ruban Leslie, Parish Priest, Caritas Italiana, Caritas Germany, National SEDEC, bus drivers, staff members, and those who participated.
